About Us

  • Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) was established in 1996 by Emiri Decree No. 5, with the objective of promoting commercial and tourism activities in the Emirate of Sharjah.

    The Authority endeavours to develop these sectors through various events, activities and issuances, and promotes the emirate at all local, regional and international levels.

    Consequently, the Authority carries out all the work and activities necessary to achieve their goals by way of planning and drawing up strategic plans to further development and to promote the tourism industry in all its forms; in addition to conducting related social and economic studies. It compiles the policies for participating in the local, regional and international exhibitions. The Authority also aims at marketing and promoting Sharjah to attract foreign investment.

    SCTDA uses all available means and different media to raise public awareness locally, regionally and internationally of the unique features Sharjah offers as a special tourist destination. On the international front, the Authority seeks to participate in international and regional events and activities to promote the emirate and place it on top of the international map. Today, Sharjah has become a preferred destination for many tourists from around the world.

    Finally, in its strategy to promote the emirate as a unique tourist destination, the Authority focuses on the factors of distinction and exclusiveness.

    In coordination with other government departments and the concerned private sector, SCTDA exerts a considerable effort in order to achieve the development intended for the Emirate of Sharjah, which is ranked among the most prestigious and distinguished commercial and tourist destinations in the world.

    To achieve this goal SCTDA implements the following:

    • Planning, laying out strategies, managing general policy, supervising comprehensive and integrated tourism-related programs in the Emirate, in addition to providing all means available for commerce and tourism development through coordination with relevant authorities and departments
    • Promoting the tourist and historical attractions in the Emirate in coordination with concerned departments
    • The provision of leisure and entertainment activities for tourists
    • Promoting the Emirate of Sharjah as a distinct cultural, heritage and family tourist destination
    • Achievement of commercial development and improvement of the tourism industry with the aim of attracting foreign investments, increasing the tourist flow, increasing the number of hotel establishments and maintaining the high percentage of hotel room occupancy

    Mission

    Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will ensure that tourism and commerce make an increasingly vital contribution to the economic, social, cultural and environmental well-being of Sharjah. The SCTDA will continuously plan for the delivery of a mature, confident, prosperous and sustainable growth; through effective co-ordination and collaboration with all levels of business within the emirate of Sharjah and UAE.

    Objectives

    • To market Sharjah more effectively as an attractive all year round destination.
    • To exceed the expectations of visitors to Sharjah by providing high standards and ensuring that investment in tourism is responsive to their changing needs.
    • Improve the professionalism and innovation of the industry by raising the profile through enhancing skills, training and motivation within the industry.
    • To work towards achieving a sustainable approach to tourism development which benefits society, involves local communities and enhances Sharjah’s unique environmental, cultural and heritage assets

    1. RESEARCH, PLANNING AND PROMOTION

    In collaboration with all sectors of Sharjah, plan for commerce and tourism through using up to date research and analysis. SCTDA will plan strategically to position and promote Sharjah as an attractive cultural all year round destination for international and domestic visitors.

    • E1 - Setting the plans, strategy, general policy, comprehensive and integrated programs for promoting tourism in the Emirate and supervising it with all possible means for realizing the commercial and tourist development from all aspects in coordination with the competent authorities.
    • E2- Promoting the tourist and heritage areas in the Emirate in coordination with the relevant authorities.
    • E3- Conducting field studies and appropriate questionnaire, along with surveying the opinions of the concerned parties and those specialized in the field of tourism and tourist business and taking all decisions that help in pushing forward their development
    • E6- Setting the policy concerning the Commission’s participation in the local, regional and international tourist and commercial exhibitions in coordination with the relevant authorities.

    2. QUALITY & DELIVERY

    SCTDA will work strategically to deliver an all round experience that consistently exceeds expectations and through ongoing investment and guidance, effectively responds to the global challenges and evolving needs of major markets.

    • E4- Providing the convenience and entertainment to tourists and facilitating their procedures in coordination with the competent authorities, in addition to establishing offices within the Emirate for helping tourists getting the tourist information.
    • E7- Opening external representation offices, and providing them with all powers for cooperating with the commercial and tourist organization or any regional similar bodies for encouraging the exchange of commercial and tourist delegations, and organizing forums and symposiums falling within its specialty.
    • E9- Concluding tourist agreements with the regional and international competent organization and commissions, along with conducting all affairs that may help in realizing its objectives within the powers vested in it after getting the Executive Council’s approval thereon.
    • E13- Issuing the preliminary approval for licensing hotel installations according to the Executive Bylaw of this Decree
    • E14- Classifying and inspecting hotel installations for controlling their compliance with implementing the bylaws, regulations and decision issued by the Commission in this connection.

    3. PROFESSIONALISM & SKILLS

    Raising the profile of tourism and commerce in the emirate, SCTDA will improve professionalism and innovation with skills training, general education and information from grass root level through to senior management.

    • E8- Organizing the service of tourist guides and other people involved in tourism sector and supervising their rehabilitation.
    • E12- Working on providing job opportunities, training and rehabilitation programs for employment in the tourism sector in coordination with the competent authorities in the Emirate.

    4. COORDINATION & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

    SCTDA will work collaboratively with all stakeholders towards achieving a sustainable approach to commercial and tourism development, which will benefit society generally, involve local communities and enhance Sharjahs’ unique assets for all to enjoy.

    • E5- Allocating offices for information to be assigned the task of collecting the relevant information from the various local, regional and international sources, along with classifying, sorting and providing such information to interested bodies according to the Council’s regulations.
    • E10- Arranging, sponsoring and encouraging investments in tourism sector in coordination with the competent authorities and in conformity to the general policy set by the Executive Council.
    • E11- Encouraging, organizing and sponsoring the domestic tourism and investment in tourism. Also, organizing tourism programs in this respect for the purpose of publicizing the milestones in the country.
    • E15. Forming permanent or interim committees for studying and discussing the issues falling within their specialty. The council shall determine the powers of such committees and the mechanism of their work.
  • Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Authority believes that the development of the tourism sector is an organized collective action based on solid foundations and rules set by well-thought strategies. These strategies are drawn up by the board of directors, chaired by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, taking into account all the factors affecting this sector and the general trend of the local, regional and international tourism.
