Consultative Council

The Consultative Council in Sharjah was established in 1999 by Emiri Decree No. 3, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to assist the Ruler and the Government Departments.

The aims of the Council are to improve the services provided to the citizens in the Emirate to better their living and working conditions.

The Council works together with the different government departments in reviewing the laws and its amendments. The achievements of the Council have been far reaching, and of note include the recommendation for the establishment of Air Arabia and the law for regulating the relationship between landlords and tenants.

The different tasks and responsibilities of the Council are as follows:

  • Revision of the draft laws referred to the Consultative Council by the Executive Council
  • Implementing the appropriate proposals for all matters referred to the Council by the Ruler, with regards to general politics and other recommendations
  • Discussing issues related to public affairs concerning the different government departments and submitting recommendations to the Ruler
  • Requesting any data, studies or reports relating to economic development and social affairs
